Gambia's Army Chief of Staff Gen Lang Tombong Tamba dismissed and taken into custody.

The Gambian president Yahya Jammeh has dismissed his military chief, General Lang Tombong Tamba from office two days after a planned mutiny by some disgruntled soldiers was aborted.

General Tamba is replaced by Brigadier General Masaneh Kinteh, while Major General Yakuba Drammeh has been promoted to the position of Deputy Chief of Defense Staff.

Reasons for General Tamba's dismissal remain unknown but our correspondent says president Jammeh made a surprise visit to Yundum Barracks on Thursday and was displeased with the living condition of his men and women in uniform.

General Tamba, according to our correspondent in Banjul, was taken into custody alongside other high ranking military officials, who are all suspected of complicity in Wednesday's foiled mutiny.

More updates will follow as our reporter continues investigating this developing story.
