Senegambia News has been reliably informed that the recently denial of Canadian Entry Visas to 235 to Gambian Fans to the World Youth Championship currently underway in Canada was a serious malpractice in the visa process at the Department of Youth Sports, and Religious Affairs and this contributed to the massive denial.According to sources the way the process of the visa application has contributed immensely to the denial.
Sources added that the top officials involved in the Canadian visa process should have all applied with the fans to give more weight to the application but apply on their own.
Source pointed out the Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Omar Faye, his Permanent Secretary Ebou Joof and Alhagie Conteh went on their own in Dakar and got their visa and refused to take the advice given to them by the Canadian authorities in Dakar that all applicants should be present physically in Dakar for them to be issued visas.
Sources report that if all the applicants had traveled to Dakar, people who had the requirement were going to qualified and surely be issued entry visas.
Sources informed Senegambia News that the Canadian Consular in Dakar is also overseeing the consulate in Accra , which automatically disqualified the Gambian applicants for not accepting to appear physically at the Embassy in Dakar .
Sources said the people that were coordinating the visas issue were not the most qualified people to handle this international issue. The secretary of State for Foreign Affairs should have been the right man to lead the delegation to Dakar or Accra for the visa issue. Not only the issue of selection, sources noted, but lot of things went wrong which contributed to the blonder.
Senegambia News was reliably informed that certain people who were neither fans nor Journalists were registered as Journalists or fans without the knowledge of The Gambia Sports Journalists Association and the Fans Club executive committees respectively.
“One Ousman Momodou Njie, a Football analyst, Mohammed Ben Saidu Jarju, a translator, Momodou Sowe, a FIFA referee were all registered under the Sports Journalists Association and were issued visas leaving the legally, professional Sports Journalists who were among the applicants and were duly accredited by the World Football Governing Body, FIFA”, sources diclosed.
A member of the Gambia Sports journalist Association (name withheld) believed that the accreditation letters attached to the visa application form of the Journalists were removed because if it were there the deserving Journalists would be surely issued entry visas.
“One Abdou MC Jallow, a businessman, was registered under the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs and Fatou Touray, registered under the GFA, all were issued entry visas to Canada.
Another misleading information issued by the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs that Gambian applicants were denied visas due to age, unemployment and marital status, was contrary to the actual situation as more than 50% of the applicants are adults, married and most of them are employed in Government or other reputable institutions and have at least traveled on several occasions” sources stated.
Sources also said that the planned quota of fans to be ferried by President was at 250 in numbers but after investigations, revealed that 300 Passports were sent to Accra , out of which 28 were given visas but only 15 were officially announced and have been part of the 250 applicants.
